Patrick Mahomes Cuts His Hair Out of ‘Frustration,’ Says Barber – What’s Behind the Bold Move?

Earlier this week, Patrick Mahomes visited Texas to support his alma mater, Texas Tech.
While Mahomes has shown up at Texas Tech since leading the school’s football team, this was the first time he was back on campus with a new look.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has gone viral with a brand-new ‘do. The drastic change shocked fans and has elicited more than a few comments from haters, too.
Now, his longtime barber has stepped forward to explain the haircut and, possibly, Patrick Mahomes’ motivation for getting it.
Patrick Mahomes felt the agony of defeat earlier this month when the Kansas City Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.
He’s undoubtedly looking back at all the mistakes now that he’s officially in the off-season. Apparently, he’s making some style changes to deal with the disappointment, too.
Mahomes has cut off his signature mohawk in favor of a much shorter and more traditional haircut.
The haircut features a shorter, cropped top and a subtle fade and has been heavily discussed on social media all week.
But, why did he cut his signature ‘do? The timing is significant.
Patrick Mahomes’ haircut has been an essential part of his style. It’s sort of his signature. Apparently, one person has been responsible for it all along.
DeJuan Bonds, a Kansas City barber, has been cutting Mahomes’ famous mohawk since 2017, the year he landed at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Mahomes Mohawk is now a memory. Bonds is the barber who gave Mahomes his fresh look. He opened up about the cut and Mahomes’ rationale in an interview with
Bonds told the publication that Mahomes showed up at his appointment looking for a drastic cut, which he happily gave him.
Bonds said he believes Patrick Mahomes probably decided to deviate from his signature haircut out of frustration.
After all, the cut came just days after the Chiefs missed out on a Super Bowl three-peat. Bonds thinks Mahomes is also looking for a way to showcase a new, more mature Patrick. Still, the barber insists it wasn’t an utterly spur-of-the-moment call.
He claims he and Mahomes have discussed a big chop in the past but opted against it out of superstition.
While Mahomes hasn’t spoken out about the cut, he is hardly the first person to make a big style change in the face of significant life changes. After all, a new hairstyle can symbolize a new chapter in someone’s life.
He isn’t even the only Chief who has made a change to their hair in recent months. Travis Kelce has been sporting a new ‘do, too.
