Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Evades NFL Rules With $10.28 Billion Company as He Films Secret Coors Light Commercial for Future Release
Patrick Mahomes and his smart plays on the field are no untold tale. However, surprisingly, he carries the same air off the gridiron, and the new ‘Coors Light Time Capsule Commercial’ is a prime example of the same.
While professional football players are not allowed to promote any alcoholic drinks while still being active on the field, the clever Mahomes orchestrated a loophole around this protocol.
Key to the campaign was to bring up this NFL rule in the campaign. The video played out with the reigning Super Bowl Champion on top of the Coors’ ‘Chill train.’ In a typical Hollywood fashion, Mahomes delivered, “Looks like we’ve got company.” However, immediately the scene is cut off and a woman walks up to the quarterback reiterating the NFL rules involving the promotion of beer.
In a tongue-in-the-cheek manner, the video turns toward other members present on set where the director dramatically comments, “This was supposed to be my big break.” This is followed by another guy on the set adding, “What is the return policy on the 10,000 Patrick Mahomes figurines?” In a quite smart advertising style, the ‘The Coors’ promises a long-lasting Mahomes engagement as the scene ends with, “Coors Light Time Capsule Commercial to be unearthed someday in the future when Patrick Mahomes finally has permission to promote our beer.”
Coors Light reunited with the Kansas City Chiefs QB earlier in 2024, continuing the partnership that started in 2022. Apart from Mahomes, Matt Snell also once featured in a Miller Lite ad in the 1970s that helped the company achieve light beer fame. Additionally, Peyton Manning and his $3 million endorsement of Budweiser after the Super Bowl victory was almost along similar lines.
As the Coors Light commercial takes the internet by storm, Patrick Mahomes also issued a statement, “Everyone knows I’m a Coors Light guy.” According to Forbes, the commercial was apparently shot on April 9, in Dallas, Texas. Astonishingly though this isn’t the first time Molson Coors, the $10.28 billion company that owns ‘Coors Light’, has found the most creative way possible for a commercial featuring an active NFL player like Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs QB has previously also starred in a famous “bear commercial.”
Patrick Mahomes in a ‘bear’ advertisement despite strict NFL rules
In the previous two commercials, Coors Light used the star quarterback in the promotion of its beverages again through smart advertising and brought wordplay into action. Instead of calling it Coors Light Beer, they opted for Coors Light Bear. In a minute-long video, Mahomes could be seen interacting with a bear as he went along his day enjoying golf, watching TV, hanging out on the beach, and so on. The advertisement ended with the QB playfully adding, “Coors Light Bear. The world’s most refreshing bear.”
