However, the judges deducted three-tenths of a point from her overall score due to her failure to salute the judging panel for a long enough time.

According to the International Gymnastics Federation’s Code of Points, gymnasts must present themselves properly and acknowledge the judges at the start and end of their routine. While the deduction was deemed “a little harsh” by Biles’ coach, it ultimately did not affect the final outcome.

The decision sparked criticism on social media, with one user stating that Biles’ salute was “close enough” and another calling the deduction “petty.” The incident highlighted the strict adherence to the rules in gymnastics, even for an athlete of Biles’ stature.
