Just In: “Patrick Mahomes Just Raised the Bar to UNBELIEVABLE Heights—Are You Ready for the New NFL Standard? Find Out How He’s Transforming Fan Expectations!”
For most teams, training camp is a time when hope springs eternal even though it occurs during the summer time. For the Cleveland Browns, so far so good with QB Deshaun Watson taking all the reps after being limited throughout offseason activities coming off shoulder surgery.
While football is a team game, everyone knows that the NFL has become a quarterback and head coach league.
We saw in ESPN’s QB rankings how difficult things are for the AFC with a gauntlet of quarterbacks in the conference. Much like Michael Jordan impacted the career reputations of many NBA stars of the 90s, QB Patrick Mahomes, and the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, is trending in that direction early in his career.
Following the Chiefs latest Super Bowl victory, we shared four factors that could help the Browns overcome the champs. Given the value of passing offenses in the modern NFL, Cleveland’s newly unveiled offense must hit on all cylinders to have a chance against Mahomes.
Given what we have seen from Mahomes already, the comparisons to Jordan’s dominance over the NBA are fair. That means teams like the Browns and quarterbacks like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow (even if he beat Kansas City to win an AFC Championship), Justin Herbert and others could be overshadowed like Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Mark Price and others were during the Chicago Bulls championship streaks.
The question, however, is does the presence of Mahomes with the Chiefs change expectations for fans in the AFC? Should Browns fans set lower hopes despite a great and highly-paid roster? For those who grew up watching the NBA during Jordan’s greatness often had to hope for a miracle but expect disappointment.
