It is drop day for Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion released the latest colorway of his signature shoe, a collaborative effort with adidas called the “Mahomes 2”, called “Race Against Time.”

Mahomes, who teased the release of the shoe while attending the British Grand Prix with a video featuring London’s Tower Bridge, sent a message with the hype video for the drop.

“Speed starts here [taps head],” Mahomes said in the video posted on X on August 1. “Thinking one step ahead. Slowing the rest of the game down, so when the chaos comes I’m set to smoke

“The ‘Race Against Time’ colorway perfectly matches the Chiefs (and Texas Tech Red Raiders) uniforms,” Kicks’ Pat Benson wrote on July 8. “The new colorway is the third of the Mahomes 2 line. The first colorway celebrated the Super Bowl victory in February, and the “Off Script” colorway launched in April.”

Mahomes announced a 10-year partnership with adidas and Texas Tech in October 2023.

“Notably, adidas and Mahomes are releasing co-branded apparel featuring Mahomes’ signature Gladiator logo, marking the first time an adidas athlete partner’s logo has been featured on official collegiate apparel,” Benson wrote upon the brand’s launch on July 1.

It is just the latest development in an impressive off-field portfolio for the Chiefs star.

The quarterback’s off-field interests include other professional organizations, athletic apparel and technology brands, candy companies, and fast food chains.

“Mahomes has had endorsement deals with Adidas, State Farm, Oakley, Nestlé, and DirectTV, among others,” Investopedia’s Hiranmayi Srinivasan wrote in October 2023. “Mahomes has a 1% stake in Major League Baseball team Kansas City Royals. The team is valued at $1.2 billion, according to Sportico. Mahomes is also invested in the Kansas City Current, a professional women’s soccer team.

“Mahomes has a stake in Whoop, a wearable fitness tracker that was valued at $3.6 billion as of 2021. The quarterback is also invested in Hyperice, a company that makes massage guns and hot and cold therapy devices for sports recovery. Hyperice had a valuation of $700 million as of 2020 and got $100 million in capital from an investment firm in July 2023.

Mahomes also invested in KMO Burgers, which is under the Whataburger umbrella.

Srinivasan also notes that the Texas native, Mahomes, helped open the first Whataburger location in Kansas City in 2022.

Mahomes was active on social media beyond his shoe drop on Thursday, also sharing a post about teammate Trent McDuffie from the team about his 90 overall rating in Madden 25.

“Definition of a game changer,” the Chiefs social media team posted on August 1.

McDuffie’s final rating in Madden 24 was 89, so he begins with a leg up on his 2024 self. He will also see that rating adjusted throughout the system. The Chiefs notably lost top corner L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans in free agency, putting even more pressure on McDuffie in 2024.

Video game ratings do not always properly reflect a player’s current level of performance. McDuffie allowed 65.8% completion in 2023, per Pro Football Reference.

McDuffie has yet to record a takeaway in his career, be it an interception or fumble recovery.

He has, however, deflected seven passes in each of his first two seasons. He also forced six fumbles, including five in 2023. His continued ascension bodes well for a defense that ranked second in points and yards allowed in 2023.
