LeBron James on the 2024 Olympics: “A Unique Chance to Ignite the Dreams of the Next Generation”
LeBron James opens up on what it means to be the US flag bearer at Olympic ceremony.
After the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, USA superstar LeBron James opened up on what the moment meant for him. As he explained in the iconic white coat, he sees it as an opportunity to inspire the next generation.
“I think what’s different is always a new experience,” said James. “Some guys have never been Olympians, so you want them to see the whole moment of being here. It’s a great opportunity for myself to continue to inspire the next generation. I’m super excited to be here and I’ve been a part of Athens, Greece, the Athens Games, the Beijing Games, the London Games, and now the Paris Games. They are always special in their own right. It’s 2024 and this is another special moment not only for this country of France but also for us other Olympians that are here representing the United States of America.”
James made history today as the first Men’s basketball athlete to carry the U.S. flag for the opening ceremony. He stood proud and waved the American flag as his boat sailed over the water for a scenic view. It was a moment of great honor and recognition for the King, who continues to cement his legacy as one of America’s all-time greatest athletes
As a two-time gold medalist already, James came in as one of the most experienced athletes in the tournament and he’s looking to add to his resume with another victory this summer. He’ll be joined by Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Edwards.
LeBron, 39, has been a winner all summer long. Going back to free agency, James secured another $97.1 million over the next two years from the Lakers and set the stage for a cozy retirement. He also made history when the Lakers drafted his son, Bronny, with the 55th overall pick. While the Lakers have almost the same roster as last season, they do have a new coach and it’s the guy that LeBron James was advocating for
As a 4x champion, 4x MVP, 20x All-Star, and 20x All-NBA player, LeBron has nothing left to prove going into his 22nd season but he still has goals of winning a title. After averaging 25.7 points per game last season, LeBron is obviously still capable of running the show for the Lakers but it remains to be seen if they can beat out other Western elites like the Nuggets, Mavericks, and Minnesota Timberwolves
For now, however, LeBron’s focus is on the Olympic games and he’s fully committed to doing whatever it takes to help his country claim the top spot this year just like they have for 16 years before.
Whatever happens in this tournament, LeBron’s aim is to inspire millions of fans around the world and that’s exactly what he’s doing with his discipline, respect, and his relentless work ethic that has him front and center on the world stage at 39 years old.
While much uncertainty lies ahead for LeBron and the Lakers, his legacy as one of the best in the world is already set and he will go down in history as one of the sport’s most influential athletes of all time.
