NFL Fans Ignite Debate Over Jordan Love’s Potential to Become the Highest-Paid Player in History
There is now a new wealthiest man in NFL history as Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love inked the biggest deal in the history of the league on Friday.
As discussed on GH previously the Miami Dolphins had drove up the prices after paying their quarterback a huge contract:
On Friday, the Miami Dolphins moved the quarterback back market when they handed Tua Tagovailoa a four-year contract extension worth $214.4 million, of which $167 million was guaranteed. Tua is set to make $53.1 million per year, which earlier in the afternoon made him the third-highest-paid quarterback in the league behind Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.
Love smashed that benchmark a few hours later.
After the Dolphins pushed the market, Love agreed to the largest extension in the history of the league. He signed a four year $220 million extension on Friday which tied both Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence for the highest paid contract ever.
While Love has been in the league for quite some time, he only got his opportunity to become the starter for the team last year. He was sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for the first few years of his career. Love has been exceptional when he’s been on the field, however that has not been that much time at all. Before this past season Love had only started on game in the NFL.
This monster contract definitely takes a lot of risk with it as well, simply because of the lack of experience on Love’s part. The Packers have believed in Love since drafting him however, as many analysts thought they had reached for the quarterback back in the draft. Love also had an incredible season that almost resulted in an NFC championship birth.
Love totaled: 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions.
