“Patrick Mahomes’ Tear-Jerking Response to ESPY Victory Will Leave You in Tears!”
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of the most recognizable names in all of sports. A two-time NFL MVP, Mahomes is one of just three quarterbacks ever to throw at least 50 touchdown passes in a season (Peyton Manning and Tom Brady being the other two). He has also led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories in the last five seasons, winning Super Bowl MVP each time.
Additionally, Mahomes has been named to the Pro Bowl six times and a First Team All-Pro twice. In 2018, he was named the AP and Pro Football Writers’ Association Offensive Player of the Year. Mahomes has also won the Sporting News Offensive Player of the Year twice.
On Thursday night, Mahomes was named the winner of the ESPY Award for Best Male Athlete (he also won the ESPY for Best NFL Player). The other nominees were golfer Scottie Scheffler, MLB star Shohei Ohtani, and NHL phenom Connor McDavid.
The Chiefs quarterback was not present to accept the award, so head coach Andy Reid accepted the ESPY on his behalf:
Coach Reid said that Mahomes told him to make sure his acceptance speech emphasized that this particular award is a team award. In other words, the star quarterback credits his teammates for all of his personal success.
Reid also praised Mahomes for growing as a husband and father just as much, if not more than, as a football player.
