Shocking: “Chad Johnson Surprises Fans with Bold Tight End Pick Over Travis Kelce”
Chad Johnson is always good for a fun sound bite and was never one to mince his words during his days dominating the NFL.
He recently stirred the pot with his take on tight ends, saying he’d take one this season over Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce.
On a recent episode of “First Take,” Johnson was presented with the choice of taking Kelce or George Kittle on his team this season, and he chose the San Francisco 49ers star because of “what he’s able to do in the run game as far as blocking is concerned.”
It was clearly a tough decision for Johnson, as he praised both players for being dynamic and incredible pass catchers. He ultimately gave the edge to Kittle due to his all-around ability as a blocker and receiver.
The debate came about after the Madden 25 video game ratings were released with Kelce as a 99 overall while Kittle was a 97
Kelce’s streak of seven consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons ended last year after missing two games caused him to fall 16 yards short, while Kittle was able to top 1,000 yards on just 65 catches while competing with the likes of Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey for targets.
It’s not a controversial take to go with Kittle over Kelce at this point, as Johnson stated. Kittle is a major asset in the run game, while Kelce has always been seen as more of a pass-catching tight end and isn’t tasked with putting his hand in the dirt and blocking as often as Kittle does.
